What is bubble text?

Bubble text is ordinary text rewritten with Unicode characters in which every letter sits inside a circle. For example, the letter "a" becomes "ⓐ", "b" becomes "ⓑ", and "A" becomes "Ⓐ". The result looks as if each character has been drawn inside a round bubble, which gives the text a playful, decorative feel that is hard to miss. Because the bubbles are real Unicode characters rather than images, the output can be selected, copied and pasted anywhere that accepts plain text.

The bubble effect is part of the Enclosed Alphanumerics block of Unicode, an international standard that assigns a unique number to every character in every script. The block was introduced to support circled numbers and letters used in lists, footnotes and East Asian typography, but it doubles as a ready-made way to wrap Latin letters and digits in circles. This tool simply walks through your input, swaps each supported character for its circled equivalent, and leaves everything else untouched.

How bubble mapping works

The core of the tool is a lookup table that pairs each uppercase letter, lowercase letter and digit with its circled Unicode counterpart. Uppercase letters map to filled-circle glyphs such as "Ⓐ", lowercase letters to outlined-circle glyphs such as "ⓐ", and digits to enclosed numbers such as "①". Spaces, punctuation and any character without a bubble equivalent pass through unchanged, so the structure of your text is preserved.

Because the circled characters live in Unicode, they behave like normal text in almost every app. They can be resized by changing the font size, recoloured with the text colour, and rendered in bold or italic where the font supports it. The one caveat is that a few very old fonts do not include the Enclosed Alphanumerics block, in which case a bubble character may show as a placeholder box. On any modern device or browser the bubbles display exactly as intended.

When to use bubble text

Bubble text is mostly used for fun, emphasis and decoration, but it has a few practical uses too. The most common ones include:

• Social media posts. Add a bubbly, eye-catching twist to a status update, caption or comment that makes readers stop and look.
• Usernames and bios. Create a distinctive display name on platforms that allow Unicode, helping your profile stand out in a crowd.
• Headings and titles. Use bubble letters in a poster, newsletter or worksheet to give a section a friendly, hand-drawn feel.
• Lists and steps. Replace plain numbers with circled digits to mark steps in a tutorial or items in a checklist.
• Greetings and gifts. Spell out a name or message in bubbles on a card, invitation or digital sticker for a playful touch.

Whenever you want text that looks friendly, decorative or simply different, wrapping each letter in a bubble is a quick way to achieve the effect.

Bubble text on social media

Most social networks — including X (Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Discord — accept Unicode in posts, comments and profile fields, which means bubble text works on all of them without any extra setup. Because the circled characters are real text rather than an image, they can be selected, copied and searched just like normal writing, and they adapt to the platform's font and dark-mode settings. A single copied string will display correctly whether the viewer is on a phone, a tablet or a desktop.

That said, screen readers used by visually impaired users may read the circled characters unpredictably, since some are classified as symbols rather than letters. If accessibility matters, treat bubble text as decoration rather than the only way to convey important information, and provide a plain-text version alongside it. Used thoughtfully, bubble text is a harmless way to add personality to your online presence.
